Jim Carry’s Rags to Riches Story
Did you know our favorite funny-man came from a rags to riches story?
The low: Growing up around the GTA, the Canadian funny-man didn’t enjoy such a pleasant youth. While his parents tried to hold down jobs, Carrey once had to live in a camper van with his family — all the while working eight-hour days while going to high school to help keep the Carrey clan afloat.
The high: After a few successful gigs at Toronto’s Yuk Yuk’s comedy club, Carrey took off to Los Angeles, where he was discovered doing stand-up by Rodney Dangerfield in 1981. Carrey would toil in the showbiz world for more than a decade before he eventually landed the title role in the 1994 smash-hit “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.” Since, Carrey’s movies — a filmography that includes “Dumb & Dumber” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” — have grossed well over $2 billion at the box office.
